eyeku:
the soul of symbol is an interdisciplinary, multimedia
approach to visual
literacy and communication arts that focuses on the origin,
development and use
of symbols. The purpose of this resource is to illuminate
patterns and the
subsequent symbolic interpretation we give them: an exploration
of meaning that
evolves out of the human experience. This resource is oriented
to students of design
and design professionals, but is relevent to anyone interested
in the application of
image to meaning, and meaning to image.
eyeku shifts focus from reactive response to a thoughtful,
unwinding process that
begins to reveal the underlying connections between concept
and experience.
This process begins to reveal
how and why we communicate as we do and is a
powerful key to effective, clean and ethical
communication. The intent of eyeku
is to improve visual literacy,
enhance creative problem solving, improve intuitive
sensing of environment and design, promote
intentional and meaningful use of
symbols, encourage new media and disciplinary
collaboration, and heighten
individual responsibility.
Sponsorship can occur in many ways: contribution of talents
